Trump Says Putin and Zelenskyy Want to End Ukraine War

Post by : Bianca Haleem

US President Donald Trump said on Monday that he believes both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy are looking for a way to end the war in Ukraine. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said both sides are engaged in talks and expressed hope that the ongoing diplomatic efforts could lead to a resolution of the conflict.

Trump said he believes Putin is under pressure and is interested in ending the war. He also said Ukraine wants the conflict to come to an end, adding that discussions are continuing between the parties. "Well, I think he (Putin) does feel pressure. He wants to end it, and Ukraine wants to end it, and we're in talks, and we'll see if we can get it ended," Trump said.

Trump Says Peace Negotiations Are Making Progress

The US president expressed confidence that the negotiations have advanced more than many people believe. While no timeline for a possible agreement was mentioned, Trump suggested that the diplomatic process is moving in a positive direction.

According to Trump, the progress being made behind the scenes is greater than what is publicly known. He said he is encouraged by the current state of discussions and remains hopeful that an agreement can eventually be reached. "I think we're getting much closer than people realize," Trump said. "President Putin wants it to end. I will tell you that very strongly. And President Zelenskyy actually wants it to end now."

His remarks reflect his view that both Moscow and Kyiv are interested in ending the conflict through ongoing negotiations.

Ukraine Issue to Be Raised During NATO Meetings

Trump also confirmed that the war in Ukraine will be an important topic during meetings with NATO allies at this week's summit in the Turkish capital, Ankara.

He said discussions with NATO leaders will include the latest developments related to the conflict and the ongoing diplomatic efforts. "We're going to be going to NATO, and we're going to be talking about it," he added.
