As part of the 27th edition of the International Organization of Turkic Culture's Opera Days, Turkmenistan recently hosted a vibrant cultural concert. The grand event unfolded at the Palace of Mukams within the State Cultural Center in Ashgabat, featuring acclaimed opera artists representing Turkmenistan, Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan.
This concert underscored the increasing cultural collaboration among Turkic-speaking nations and highlighted Turkmenistan’s dedication to enhancing cultural diplomacy on the global stage. Officials expressed that the program illustrated the nation's commitment to fostering peace, friendship, and understanding through the arts.
Supported by broader cultural initiatives championed by Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the event signified Turkmenistan's intent to deepen its relationships with other nations and international entities, particularly in cultural and humanitarian exchanges. The government perceives cultural diplomacy as a pivotal method for cultivating trust and unity among different nations.
The opening number featured the touching musical piece “Türkmenistan bagy-bossan,” composed by Veli Mukhadov and executed by the State Symphony Orchestra alongside the State Choir of Turkmenistan. The performance celebrated the beauty and cultural abundance of Turkmenistan, earning resounding applause from the gathered audience.
Throughout the evening, attendees reveled in renowned pieces from both Turkic and global classical music traditions. They were treated to selections from national operas sung in Turkmen, Uzbek, Kyrgyz, Azerbaijani, Kazakh, and Turkish, showcasing the rich artistic tapestry of the Turkic world.
The concert also included internationally lauded opera works such as “Romeo and Juliet,” “Carmen,” “Faust,” “Il Trovatore,” “Pagliacci,” and “Andrea Chénier,” performed in languages including Italian, French, German, and Spanish. These selections reflected the event's commitment to an international discourse on classical music, intertwining Turkic culture with global traditions.
Cultural analysts remarked that the concert served as a vital emblem of solidarity among Turkic nations. The event showcased how music and the performing arts act as bridges for international friendships while preserving the shared historical and spiritual legacies of Central Asia and beyond.
The concert culminated in a collective performance of the beloved Italian piece “Funiculì, Funiculà,” symbolizing peace, harmony, and enduring friendships amongst participating nations, and drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Artists and cultural delegations expressed heartfelt thanks to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for his unwavering support of international cultural initiatives and opportunities for artistic collaboration. Officials noted that the success of the TURKSOY Opera Days concert further solidifies Turkmenistan's status as a key cultural and humanitarian hub in the region.
