UAE Denounces Israeli Knesset's West Bank Legislation as Illegal

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued a strong denunciation of the Israeli Knesset’s recent advance of two contentious bills aimed at asserting Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank and legitimizing specific settlements. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs described this as a significant escalation and a clear breach of international law, warning that such moves jeopardize the prospects for achieving a fair and lasting peace in the area. The UAE’s commitment to uphold the rights of Palestinians and promote adherence to international law remains steadfast amid unilateral Israeli actions. The UAE further asserted that any attempt to annex portions of the West Bank would effectively undermine the two-state solution and could create further instability in the wider Middle East.

As stated by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the proposed Israeli legislation represents an unacceptable effort to change the legal and historical context of the Palestinian territories. The UAE cautioned that the actions taken by the Israeli Knesset could derail significant peace efforts and obstruct the establishment of long-term security and stability in the region. Emphasizing the importance of international law, the UAE called upon the global community to take robust measures to avert any annexation and to back peace-building initiatives. This strong condemnation from the UAE highlights its ongoing advocacy for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian struggle.

The UAE's statement underscored that unilateral Israeli initiatives, including the newly passed Knesset bills, conflict with international legal standards and the principles of equity and justice. The Ministry noted that these actions threaten the validity of the two-state solution and undermine the historical rights of the Palestinian populace. The UAE urged nations worldwide to intervene, uphold international conventions, and champion efforts to preserve peace, security, and stability across the region. This condemnation also reflects the UAE's commitment to hold Israel accountable for any unlawful actions in the occupied territories, consistent with its stance on safeguarding Palestinian sovereignty.

By consistently emphasizing the dangers posed by the Israeli Knesset’s legislation, the UAE reaffirmed its opposition to any annexation of the West Bank and any actions that threaten peace in the Middle East. The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated that such unilateral measures not only violate international law but also endanger the delicate equilibrium needed for a two-state resolution. Through this strong condemnation, the UAE continues to assert a proactive diplomatic role in the region, urging the international community to counter illegal Israeli actions and support a just, enduring resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The UAE’s standpoint accentuates the crucial roles of diplomacy, law, and cooperative multilateral efforts in sustaining regional peace and stability.
