Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in a multilateral meeting hosted by the United States. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York. It included several Arab and Islamic leaders invited by US President Donald Trump to discuss pressing regional issues, with a focus on ending the conflict in Gaza.

Leaders Participating In The Talks

The meeting brought together H.H. Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar; King Abdullah II of Jordan; President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye; President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia; Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan; Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly of Egypt; and Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed was accompanied by Yousef Al Otaiba, the UAE Ambassador to the United States, highlighting the UAE’s active diplomatic engagement.

Focus On Ending Gaza Conflict

The discussions centered on ending the ongoing war in Gaza. Leaders sought ways to reach a sustainable and lasting ceasefire, ensure the release of hostages and detainees, and address the worsening humanitarian situation affecting civilians in the Gaza Strip. The meeting highlighted the urgency of coordinated international action to prevent further loss of life and suffering.

UAE Commends US Efforts

During the discussions, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed praised the efforts of US President Donald Trump to help end the conflict. He commended Trump for initiatives aimed at protecting civilians, alleviating the humanitarian crisis, and securing the safe release of hostages. The UAE reaffirmed its support for these efforts and its readiness to contribute to a peaceful solution.

UAE Support For Peaceful Solutions

The UAE Foreign Minister emphasized that the country supports all initiatives that help end the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. He stressed that a peaceful settlement should ensure lasting peace and stability for Palestinians and Israelis, as well as for the broader region. The UAE is committed to promoting dialogue and cooperation among nations to achieve these goals.

Importance Of Two-State Solution

Sheikh Abdullah stressed the importance of avoiding unilateral measures that could harm international efforts to achieve a two-state solution. He highlighted that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state is essential for peace. He also emphasized the need to counter extremism and terrorism in all forms.

Promoting Tolerance And Regional Stability

Sheikh Abdullah underscored the importance of upholding the rule of law and promoting values of tolerance, coexistence, and human fraternity. These principles, he said, are crucial for ensuring the security, stability, prosperity, and sustainable development of the region. The UAE remains committed to supporting peace initiatives that benefit all peoples in the Middle East.
