Today, the United Arab Emirates marks its 54th National Day, commemorating over fifty years since the historic unification of the emirates in 1971. Known as Eid Al Etihad, this event symbolizes the lasting “Spirit of the Union” that emerged when Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, and Fujairah united under the leadership of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Ras Al Khaimah later joined in February 1972, finalizing the federation of the seven emirates.
Throughout the nation, communities are engaged in lively celebrations. The official ceremony held in Al Ain is being streamed live to viewing areas in all emirates, attracting families, residents, and visitors to come together. Key landmarks are hosting unique events, with concerts, cultural displays, and fireworks planned for the festive four-day weekend.
In Dubai, the Burj Khalifa illuminated with national colors the night before the celebrations, enriching the atmosphere of festivities across the city. Heritage sites like Al Shindagha Museum and Hatta Heritage Village are presenting exhibitions that focus on traditional Emirati customs alongside modern accomplishments of the nation. Streets, residences, and public spaces are adorned in the national colors of red, green, white, and black as community groups arrange parades, performances, and fun activities for families.
From Abu Dhabi to Fujairah, the celebratory spirit encapsulates pride in the nation's progress and the unity that has defined the UAE since its inception. The festivities will continue through the weekend, presenting an opportunity for residents and tourists to immerse in the rich culture and heritage of the country.
