Abu Dhabi, 5 November 2025 – UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan extended condolences to the family of Dick Cheney, the former vice president of the United States, who died on Monday at the age of 84.
Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as well as Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, also issued messages expressing sympathy to Cheney’s relatives.
Cheney passed away Monday night after suffering complications from pneumonia alongside pre-existing cardiac and vascular conditions, his family confirmed.
He served as the 46th Vice President of the United States from 2001 to 2009 under President George W. Bush. Cheney was widely recognised for his strong influence over executive policy and for championing a broader interpretation of presidential authority. He played a central role in the U.S.-led decision to invade Iraq in 2003.
Cheney’s death closes the chapter on a divisive and consequential public career that shaped both US domestic policy and international relations. The UAE leaders’ messages reflect formal respect for his role and underscore ties between the United States and the United Arab Emirates.
