Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, took part in the fourth meeting of the G20 Energy Transition Working Group (ETWG 4) in South Africa. This participation reinforces the country’s dedication to multilateral cooperation and global efforts toward a sustainable and inclusive energy system.

Focus on Sustainable Fuels and Nuclear Energy

During the meeting, the UAE delegation joined a side event on creating demand for sustainable fuels and attended the G20 Nuclear Energy Ministerial Conference. Ministers, experts, and policymakers from around the world gathered to exchange insights on clean energy, nuclear technology, and sustainable fuel development.

Commitment to Global Energy Goals

The UAE’s active engagement reflects its strong global standing as a responsible contributor to international energy policies. It aligns with the country’s strategy to balance economic growth with environmental protection, ensuring secure and sustainable energy resources for present and future generations.

Supporting UN Sustainable Development Goal 7

The UAE’s participation exemplifies its efforts to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 7, which aims to ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all. The country continues to prioritize energy accessibility while leading the clean energy transition.

National Strategies Driving Change

Through the updated UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and the National Hydrogen Strategy 2050, the UAE is investing in advanced technologies and renewable energy projects. These strategies aim to achieve climate neutrality by 2050, while supporting global climate initiatives such as the UAE Consensus.

Promoting Dialogue and International Partnership

The UAE’s presence at the ETWG 4 highlights the importance of dialogue and international collaboration. By engaging in discussions on sustainable fuels, nuclear energy, and innovative solutions, the UAE strengthens its role as a trusted partner in global energy transition efforts.

Building a Sustainable Energy Ecosystem

Through these initiatives, the UAE seeks to contribute to a global energy ecosystem that is efficient, equitable, and sustainable. Its collaborative approach underscores its commitment to advancing sustainable development and innovation, ensuring the country remains a key player in shaping the future of energy worldwide.

The UAE’s participation at the G20 ETWG 4 demonstrates its ongoing leadership in clean energy, sustainability, and international cooperation. These efforts showcase the nation’s vision for a balanced, low-carbon energy future that benefits both the region and the global community.
