The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) honoured national associations for their efforts in promoting grassroots football during the AFC Awards Riyadh 2025. The ceremony was held at the King Fahd Cultural Centre in Riyadh and sponsored by NEOM, celebrating achievements in developing football across Asia.
UAE Wins Gold in Grassroots Football
The UAE Football Association (UAEFA) received the AFC President Recognition Awards for Grassroots Football – Gold Category. Malaysia won the Silver Category, and Bangladesh received the Bronze. UAEFA’s recognition reflects its exceptional progress in fostering grassroots football nationwide.
Expanding the Grassroots Base
The UAEFA has actively expanded football’s grassroots reach through community tournaments, open leagues in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and age-group festivals for players under 7, 8, and 9 years old. These initiatives have reached around 28,595 players from 83 nationalities across 65 locations in the UAE.
Community Partnerships and Support
UAEFA partnered with local organizations, including the UAE Pro League, Dubai Sports Council, and Abu Dhabi Sports Council, to provide infrastructure, training, and resources. These collaborations strengthened the accessibility and quality of football programs for young participants.
Ensuring Safety and Inclusivity
Beyond participation, the UAEFA implemented social responsibility initiatives to create a safe, inclusive environment for young players. Measures focused on encouraging diversity, fair play, and the overall well-being of children while nurturing a passion for football.
Investment in Football Infrastructure
In addition to programs, UAEFA increased investment in grassroots football infrastructure, including training facilities, equipment, and organized leagues. These developments enhance the learning experience for young athletes and support long-term growth in the sport.
Regional Impact and Recognition
The award highlights the UAEFA’s commitment to developing football at the grassroots level and sets an example for other associations in the region. By reaching thousands of children and fostering community engagement, UAEFA strengthens football’s popularity and future talent pipeline.
UAEFA aims to continue expanding its grassroots initiatives, introducing more age groups, inclusive tournaments, and community-based programs. This strategy aligns with national goals to promote healthy lifestyles, youth participation, and sporting excellence across the UAE.
