Ahmed Hasan Alshehhi has officially started his new role as the Consul-General of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in Erbil, Iraq. He submitted his credentials to Ambassador Mohamed Hisham Malek, who serves as the Director of the Protocol Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq. The meeting took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in Baghdad, marking the formal beginning of Alshehhi’s diplomatic responsibilities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
During the meeting, Alshehhi expressed how proud he feels to represent the UAE in Erbil. He said that he is fully committed to strengthening the relationship between the UAE and Iraq. His focus will be on expanding cooperation in different areas that support the shared goals of both nations. His remarks showed his dedication to building closer ties and supporting ongoing development efforts.
Ambassador Mohamed Hisham Malek congratulated Alshehhi on his new position. He wished him success in carrying out his duties and expressed confidence that the UAE Consul-General would play an important role in improving relations between the two countries. The ambassador highlighted that strong diplomatic engagement helps enhance cooperation and creates new opportunities in several sectors.
Both sides used the meeting to discuss future cooperation between the UAE and Iraq. They reviewed various fields where the two countries are already working together and explored ways to expand these partnerships. Their discussions covered areas such as economic collaboration, bilateral relations, trade, investment, and development projects. They also emphasised the importance of working jointly to achieve long-term goals that benefit both nations.
The UAE and Iraq have been steadily developing their ties in recent years. With Alshehhi beginning his duties in Erbil, both sides hope to push these relations even further. The UAE continues to support Iraq’s development through investments, humanitarian work, and strategic partnerships. Iraq also values the UAE’s role in supporting stability and economic growth in the region.
Another important part of their discussion focused on strengthening connections between the people of both countries. Cultural exchanges, business links, tourism, and community programmes are seen as key elements in building stronger, long-lasting ties. Both sides agreed that expanding these areas will help their peoples understand each other better and open new opportunities for growth.
With the new Consul-General now officially in place, both the UAE and Iraq are looking forward to deeper cooperation. Alshehhi’s role in Erbil is expected to support ongoing initiatives and help launch new partnerships that match the ambitions of both governments. The meeting signaled a renewed commitment to working together for mutual progress and stability in the region.
