UAE University Drives Environmental Research at IUCN 2025

The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) is actively participating in the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi. The university is leading multiple scientific sessions, activities, and partnership announcements to highlight its role in environmental research and sustainability.

UAEU’s Vision for Sustainability Leadership

UAEU’s involvement reflects its commitment to becoming a regional and global hub for environmental research and sustainable development. The university promotes innovation and research aligned with national and international climate and sustainability goals.

Collaboration with Environmental Partners

UAEU Vice Chancellor Prof. Ahmed Ali Alraeesi emphasized the university’s collaboration with the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), Al Ain Zoo, and the International Fund for Houbara Conservation (IFHC). These partnerships focus on biodiversity protection, environmental research, and innovative sustainability solutions.

Student Research Grants and Innovation

During the Congress, UAEU announced the winners of the UAEU–EAD Joint Student Research Grants. These grants support young researchers in developing sustainable solutions for environmental challenges, reinforcing the university’s role in empowering future scientists.

MoU with Al Ain Zoo for Research Projects

UAEU signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Al Ain Zoo to strengthen joint research in areas such as landscape management and veterinary sciences. This partnership aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals and aims to promote applied research benefiting both nature and society.

Biodiversity Collaboration with IFHC

A new student research collaboration with the International Fund for Houbara Conservation was launched. UAEU will sponsor five research projects to support biodiversity conservation and the sustainability of natural habitats, demonstrating the university’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

Postdoctoral Fellowship in Climate Action

UAEU announced the second cycle of the Postdoctoral Fellowship in Climate Action. The program now covers areas like renewable energy, carbon capture, climate-resilient agriculture, water sustainability, and green technologies to strengthen applied climate research.

Desert Environment Research Centre Initiatives

The Desert Environment Research Centre at UAEU announced a strategic partnership with EAD to address desert ecosystem sustainability challenges. Joint panels and discussions, including “Beyond the Dunes,” focused on conservation, restoration, and the future of desert research.

Panels on Sustainability and Green Innovation

UAEU hosted panels such as “Greening the Future,” discussing the role of universities in environmental transformation. Panels emphasized integrating sustainability into curricula, promoting green campuses, and fostering innovation-led climate action.

Innovation and Patents Exhibition

At the Innovation and Patents Exhibition, UAEU showcased patents and applied research innovations. A short film, “From the Wisdom of the Desert to Global Innovation,” highlighted the university’s legacy in climate action and environmental research.

Empowering Youth and Community Engagement

UAEU organized a 3-Minute Student Research Presentation Competition under the Plant the Emirates SDG Research Programme. Students also participated in the Youth Storytelling Session, sharing ideas on heritage, sustainability, and community-driven environmental action.

UAEU’s Impact on Sustainability

Through its participation in the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025, UAEU demonstrated leadership in environmental research, biodiversity conservation, and climate action. The university continues to inspire innovation, cross-sector partnerships, and youth engagement for a sustainable future.
