Ukraine Open to Discuss US Peace Proposal to Conclude Conflict

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

On November 20, 2025, Ukraine declared its readiness to engage in talks regarding a US draft peace proposal intended to resolve the ongoing conflict with Russia. This announcement originated from President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office in Kyiv, highlighting Ukraine’s commitment to diplomatic solutions for the war.

President Zelensky’s office stated they have formally received the draft plan, which the US sees as a crucial step in enhancing diplomatic initiatives. “The President of Ukraine has officially received a draft plan from the American side which can, according to them, boost diplomatic efforts,” the statement noted.

While the specifics of the draft haven’t been completely revealed, sources suggest that some elements mirror Russia’s maximalist demands, potentially involving territorial concessions from Ukraine. Nevertheless, Ukraine has reiterated its intention to collaborate with the US and international allies to ensure that any peace deal honors its dignity and sovereignty.

Zelensky’s office also confirmed that following a meeting with US military representatives, both parties agreed to carefully analyze the plan and work together on its provisions. “We have committed to collaborate on the plan’s components to ensure a dignified conclusion to the conflict,” the statement conveyed. Ukraine is keen to cooperate with the US, Europe, and other global entities in pursuit of a sustainable peace.

A call between President Zelensky and former US President Donald Trump is anticipated soon to further discuss the peace plan. Ukraine’s willingness to negotiate illustrates its intention to balance diplomatic strategies with the necessity of upholding national security while avoiding concessions that might undermine its sovereignty.

This represents a pivotal moment in ending the conflict, underlining the US's role as a mediator and Ukraine’s resolve to achieve a peaceful resolution without succumbing to unjust demands.
