The United States has carried out fresh airstrikes on Iranian missile positions located along the Strait of Hormuz coastline. This move marks a major escalation in the ongoing conflict in the region.
According to the United States Central Command (Centcom), the operation was named Operation Epic Fury. The strikes targeted strong and fortified missile sites that were considered a direct threat to international shipping routes.
Centcom confirmed that US forces used multiple 5,000-pound deep penetrator bombs to destroy hardened Iranian missile infrastructure near the coastline. These missile systems included anti-ship cruise missiles that could pose serious risks to vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important oil routes, carrying around 20% of the global oil supply. Due to rising tensions, many ships are now avoiding the route, and some vessels have been seen waiting outside the area instead of passing through.
Experts warn that the situation could lead to a longer conflict. Sources suggest that military operations in the region may extend the war by up to two months.
Iran has also warned that it could target ships in the area, increasing fears for global trade and energy supplies.
Meanwhile, the US is focusing on ensuring safe movement through the strait. Reports suggest that US officials are considering further military actions, including a possible ground operation on Kharg Island, an important Iranian oil hub.
To strengthen its presence, the US has deployed around 5,000 Marines to the region.
Israel is also coordinating with the United States. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that both countries are working together, although current support is mainly limited to intelligence sharing.
The situation remains tense, with the risk of further escalation in the coming days.
