Post by : Shakul

Vietnam has reinforced its ambition to become a pivotal global player in semiconductor and high-tech manufacturing as Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung engaged with Jeff Place, Supply Chain Director at US-based Coherent Group, in Hanoi. The discussions centered around enhancing investment and fostering technological cooperation and innovation between Vietnam and the United States.

Officials indicate that science, technology, and digital transformation will serve as fundamental components of economic growth between 2026 and 2030.

Emphasis on High-Tech Investment

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung articulated Vietnam's active pursuit of foreign direct investment that introduces superior technology, R&D capabilities, skilled training, and better integration into global supply chains.

He mentioned that Vietnam is nurturing a sophisticated semiconductor ecosystem that encompasses chip design, packaging, testing, materials production, and ancillary industries.

AI and Digital Advancements at the Forefront

The Deputy Prime Minister also underlined Vietnam's strategy to advance artificial intelligence, data centres, and digital infrastructure through the use of energy-efficient technologies, prioritizing cybersecurity and data protection.

Authorities are optimistic that these investments will enhance innovation capabilities and solidify Vietnam's standing in the global tech arena.

Coherent's Vision for Long-Term Growth

Jeff Place noted that Coherent has established a presence in Vietnam for nearly 25 years, considering its local facilities among the finest worldwide. He affirmed the intention to increase investment, bolster the semiconductor ecosystem, and foster engineering talent development.

The company also aspires to deepen collaborative research efforts with Vietnamese universities to expedite innovation and technology advancement.

Strengthening Vietnam's Role in Global Supply Chains

Coherent stated that its extensive expertise across the semiconductor supply chain, spanning from raw materials to complete laser systems, enables it to significantly impact Vietnam's industrial growth.

The firm believes Vietnam is poised to emerge as a vital centre for production and technology within the global semiconductor sector over the next decade.

Inviting US Technology Initiatives

Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung reaffirmed Vietnam's commitment to its Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States. He encouraged more American enterprises to invest in high-value sectors, particularly semiconductors, electronics, and digital transformation.

The government promises ongoing support for international firms seeking to invest in Vietnam's technology-forward future.
