The much-anticipated sequel, Wicked: For Good, has surpassed box office forecasts during its opening weekend. Featuring Ariana Grande as Glinda and Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, the film was estimated to earn around $145 million in North America but surprisingly achieved $150 million domestically.
This impressive figure establishes a new benchmark for Broadway musical adaptations and ranks as the third-highest domestic opening for a musical, following Disney’s The Lion King (2019) and Beauty and the Beast (2017). The predecessor, Wicked, opened to $111 million, highlighting the sequel's significant success.
Globally, Wicked: For Good garnered an additional $76 million, amassing a total of $226 million within three days. This marks it as the 18th highest-grossing film of 2025, surpassing prominent titles such as Snow White, Joker: Folie à Deux, and One Battle After Another.
Inspired by the beloved Broadway musical and Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, the film offers a fresh take on The Wizard of Oz. In this sequel, Glinda and Elphaba, who has transformed into the Wicked Witch of the West, confront the malicious plans of The Wizard (Jeff Goldblum) and Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh).
