Yami Gautam says awards no longer determine her acting choices

Post by : Meena Hassan

Bollywood actor Yami Gautam, noted for performances in Article 370, A Thursday and Bala, has said that not securing a Best Actress trophy no longer concerns her. Despite several nominations at major ceremonies such as the Filmfare Awards and IIFA, she has yet to win the top prize.

Speaking about her growth, the actor invoked teachings from the Bhagavad Gita, referencing Lord Krishna’s counsel to Arjun. "I’ve learned to step back from chasing success or approval," she said. "Detaching from the need for validation has made a difference in how I work."

Since debuting in 2013 with Vicky Donor, Yami has built a body of work that favours challenging, performance-led parts over conventional glamour. Her choices have consistently leaned toward roles that question mainstream narratives.

She said the greatest recognition now comes from viewers and filmmakers who trust her craft. "The audience’s support and directors willing to back me are more meaningful than any award," she added.

Yami’s next project is Haq, a legal drama inspired by the Shah Bano case and co-starring Emraan Hashmi. The film follows a Muslim woman’s fight for maintenance after divorce and is due for release on November 7, drawing attention for its social relevance and strong performances.
