YouTube Lets Users Hide End Screen Pop-Ups and Subscribe

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

YouTube has announced a new feature that allows users to dismiss the pop-ups that appear at the end of videos. These pop-ups, known as end screens, often display video recommendations and other prompts that can distract viewers from finishing their current video. The new option gives users more control over their viewing experience.

Hide End Screens With a Simple Button

With the update, a “hide” button now appears in the top-right corner of the video during the end screen. Viewers can select this button to remove the end screen and continue watching without interruptions. This feature addresses a common complaint from users who find the pop-ups distracting or intrusive.

Scope of the Hide Feature

YouTube clarified that the “hide” button only affects the current video. Choosing this option does not remove end screens across all videos on the platform. If users later wish to view the end screen again, they can select a new “show” button that will restore the recommendations and other content prompts.

Changes to Subscription Buttons

In addition to the end screen update, YouTube is also removing the “subscribe” button that appears when a user hovers the mouse over a channel’s watermark on the desktop. This button has been a part of YouTube’s interface for some time, but the platform believes it is no longer necessary since a subscribe button is already displayed directly beneath each video.

Impact on User Experience

These updates are part of YouTube’s ongoing effort to improve the user experience. By giving viewers the ability to hide end screens and streamlining the subscription process, YouTube aims to reduce distractions and make the platform more user-friendly. Many users had previously expressed frustration with pop-ups that interrupted the flow of videos.

End Screens and Viewer Control

End screens have long been used by creators to promote other videos, playlists, or channels. However, not all viewers appreciate these prompts, especially when they appear before they have finished watching a video. The new “hide” button balances the interests of content creators with the needs of viewers, offering more personalized control.

Subscription Button Adjustments

Removing the hover-over subscribe button simplifies the interface and reduces redundancy. Users can still subscribe to a channel using the button below the video, ensuring that the subscription process remains visible but less intrusive. This change may also encourage creators to rely on end screen elements and video descriptions for subscriptions.

YouTube’s Focus on Simplicity

These updates reflect YouTube’s broader focus on simplicity and user choice. By reducing interruptions and streamlining key features, the platform is responding to feedback from millions of viewers worldwide. These small changes may significantly enhance the overall experience for both casual viewers and frequent users.

For viewers, the new features offer more freedom to enjoy videos without unnecessary distractions. For creators, the changes may require slight adjustments to end screen strategies, but the improvements in user experience could lead to higher engagement with the content that matters most.
