Qatar Hosts 2025 ISSF World Cup Finals at Lusail Shooting Complex

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The 2025 ISSF Shooting World Cup Finals for rifle, pistol, and shotgun will start on Friday at the Lusail Shooting Complex, bringing together world champions and top shooters from many countries. The event will continue until Monday, with the best 12 men and 12 women competing in each category. Tournament director Jassim Shaheen Al Sulaiti said this is the second time Qatar is hosting the finals, which also help shooters prepare for the upcoming World Championship in November. The competition will offer the first 36 qualifying spots for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, and a total of 144 athletes from 133 nations will take part, including 16 shooters from Qatar.

For the first time, the finals will use the Video Assistant Referee, known as VAR, to ensure accuracy and fairness in all decisions. More than 60 top international referees, supported by a skilled Qatari team, will supervise the matches. ISSF President Luciano Rossi praised Qatar’s strong infrastructure, advanced facilities, and excellent logistics, saying that Doha has once again proven its ability to host major sports events at the highest global level.

The finals are seen as an important opportunity for Qatari shooters to gain valuable experience before the 2025 World Championship. With guidance from new coaches, the athletes aim to improve their skills and boost their chances of earning Olympic qualification. This major event strengthens Qatar’s position as a leading host of international shooting championships, while also helping local shooters reach higher levels of performance.
