International Quran Recitation Contest Held in Moscow

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The 23rd International Quran Recitation Competition was held at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque, organised with the blessing of Ravil Gainutdin, Chairman of the Spiritual Board of Muslims and the Council of Muftis of Russia. The event attracted participants from 30 countries, all showcasing their mastery in the art of Quranic recitation.

Contestants followed the strict rules of Tajweed, demonstrating precise pronunciation, tone, and rhythm. The competition emphasises the ‘Tilyava’ category, which rewards skilled and melodious recitation. Many participants were Hafiz, experts who have memorised the Quran and won national competitions in their home countries.

Hafiz Tamim Al-Kindi from the UAE expressed excitement about the high level of competition, highlighting the talent of participants and the challenge of representing his country. Similarly, Ali Al-Otaibi from Saudi Arabia praised the Russian participants for their exceptional precision and skill in recitation, noting the high standard of the event.

The competition provided a platform for international Muslim communities to come together, exchange knowledge, and celebrate Quranic scholarship. It highlighted not only individual talent but also the dedication to preserving and promoting traditional Islamic arts.

The competition will conclude with an awards ceremony at the Cosmos Hotel Concert Hall in Moscow. Following the ceremony, a spiritual theatrical performance titled “Feat of Faith” will celebrate the devotion and achievements of the participants, combining art, culture, and religious reverence.

The Moscow International Quran Recitation Competition continues to strengthen ties between Muslim communities worldwide. By highlighting the mastery of Tajweed and the beauty of Quranic chanting, the event fosters spiritual growth, cultural exchange, and mutual respect among participants and audiences alike.
