H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, met with Lee Jae-myung, President of the Republic of Korea, in Gyeongju during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum. The meeting underlined the growing friendship and strategic cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and South Korea, two nations that continue to expand their partnership across several vital sectors.
At the beginning of the meeting, Sheikh Khaled conveyed the greetings and best wishes of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to the South Korean President. He expressed hopes for continued progress and prosperity for the people of Korea.
In return, President Lee Jae-myung extended his heartfelt greetings to President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, wishing the UAE lasting success and continued development. The exchange reflected the spirit of mutual respect and long-standing friendship between the two countries.
The discussions between Sheikh Khaled and President Lee focused on ways to enhance the strategic partnership between the UAE and South Korea. Both sides highlighted their strong ties built over decades of cooperation in energy, investment, trade, and technology. They reviewed ongoing joint projects and discussed new opportunities to strengthen collaboration in line with shared national goals.
The two leaders emphasised the importance of sustaining this partnership to serve mutual interests and support regional stability and prosperity.
A key part of the discussion was dedicated to clean and renewable energy, an area where the UAE and South Korea have developed close cooperation. Both countries have worked together on major projects in the nuclear and renewable energy fields.
The leaders also highlighted the need to expand collaboration in artificial intelligence, advanced technology, and digital innovation, which are seen as essential for the future of sustainable development. Sheikh Khaled reaffirmed the UAE’s strong commitment to advancing joint efforts with South Korea in areas that promote sustainability, innovation, and economic resilience. The Crown Prince also expressed appreciation for South Korea’s role as a trusted partner in supporting the UAE’s ambitious economic and technological agenda.

The meeting was attended by senior UAE officials, highlighting the importance of the discussions. Among the delegation were Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority; Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade; and Saeed bin Mubarak Al Hajeri, Minister of State.
Other key attendees included Saif Saeed Ghobash, Secretary-General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council; Maryam Eid AlMheiri, Chairperson of Abu Dhabi Media Office; and Abdulla Saif Al Nuaimi, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Korea. Their participation reflects the UAE’s multi-sector approach to international cooperation.
The meeting in Gyeongju took place on the sidelines of the APEC forum, which brings together leaders from across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss economic growth, sustainability, and innovation. The UAE’s participation underscores its increasing diplomatic and economic engagement with East Asian nations, particularly in technology and renewable energy.
By maintaining strong ties with South Korea, the UAE aims to enhance collaboration not only in bilateral projects but also in broader regional frameworks focused on sustainable development.
