As part of Abu Dhabi’s economic delegation visit to the United States, Abu Dhabi Customs, led by Director-General Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori, held a meeting with the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) at its New York Office, headquartered in the World Trade Center, Manhattan. The delegation received a warm welcome from Francis Russo, CBP Director of Field Operations.

Exchanging Expertise and Best Practices

The discussions focused on sharing expertise and best practices in customs management. Both administrations explored opportunities for future collaboration, emphasizing digital transformation and the adoption of advanced technologies to streamline trade between the UAE and the US.

Integrating Artificial Intelligence in Customs

A major point of discussion was the integration of artificial intelligence and emerging technology in modern customs operations. Abu Dhabi Customs highlighted its pilot project, the “Trusted Digital Trade Corridor,” aimed at improving efficiency and security. The US side shared its “Broker Management Programme,” demonstrating their efforts to enhance trade facilitation through technology.

Statements from Abu Dhabi Customs Leadership

Rashed Lahej Al Mansoori said, “This meeting marks a milestone in the cooperation between Abu Dhabi Customs and US Customs and Border Protection. By sharing knowledge and innovations, particularly in digital transformation and trade facilitation, we can build customs operations that are more secure, efficient, and future-ready, benefiting both countries and global supply chains.”

US Customs Perspective

Francis Russo welcomed the delegation and praised the constructive discussions. He highlighted that sharing technology, oversight, and trade facilitation practices strengthens the partnership. Russo emphasized that collaboration helps both countries address challenges in global trade and seize emerging opportunities.

Tour of One World Trade Center

The delegation concluded its visit with a tour of the 64th floor of One World Trade Center. The program ended with a commemorative photo session, symbolizing the importance of this engagement in enhancing UAE-US customs collaboration.

Strengthening Bilateral Customs Cooperation

The visit reflects ongoing efforts to reinforce cooperation between Abu Dhabi Customs and US CBP. Both sides aim to develop trusted trade channels, improve shipping procedures, and deploy advanced technology to modernize customs operations and support the global supply chain.

Balancing Trade Facilitation and Oversight

The collaboration focuses on achieving an efficient balance between facilitating international trade and maintaining strong regulatory oversight. By using AI, digital platforms, and innovative tools, customs operations can become faster, more secure, and more transparent.

The discussions set the stage for future joint initiatives in trade technology, staff training, and digital transformation. Both Abu Dhabi and US Customs aim to continue working together to implement advanced solutions that address the challenges of modern trade efficiently.

This cooperation between Abu Dhabi and US customs authorities is expected to enhance global trade efficiency. Improved customs processes and technology adoption will reduce delays, increase security, and strengthen supply chains, benefiting businesses and consumers worldwide.

Abu Dhabi Customs’ visit to New York underscores the UAE’s commitment to global trade cooperation and technological advancement. Through knowledge sharing, innovation, and strategic partnership, both countries aim to ensure secure, efficient, and future-ready customs operations.
