Zayed National Museum to Open in Abu Dhabi on 3rd December 2025

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

The Zayed National Museum, the national museum of the United Arab Emirates, will open to the public on 3rd December 2025. Located in the Saadiyat Cultural District, the museum is set to become a landmark institution presenting the UAE’s rich history, culture, and heritage to residents and visitors alike. It honors the legacy of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Founding Father.

Showcasing UAE History Through Innovation

The museum blends archaeological artifacts, historical objects, and contemporary installations with audiovisual and sensory experiences. Visitors will embark on an immersive journey from ancient times to the modern era, highlighting the nation’s development, identity, and traditions while reflecting Sheikh Zayed’s vision for education, culture, and belonging.

Leadership Vision and Cultural Significance

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, emphasized that the museum reflects the values of Sheikh Zayed and showcases Abu Dhabi as a hub of knowledge, culture, and innovation. The museum provides spaces for dialogue, learning, and cultural exchange for all generations.

Architectural Design and Visitor Experience

Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect Lord Norman Foster of Foster + Partners, the museum guides visitors through a carefully designed pathway tracing human habitation in the UAE. Al Masar Garden, a 600-meter outdoor gallery leading to the museum, features native plants, sculptures, a working falaj irrigation system, and a timeline of Sheikh Zayed’s life and the nation’s history.

Permanent Galleries and Exhibitions

The museum’s collection includes over 3,000 items, with 1,500 on display. Key galleries include “Our Beginning,” focusing on Sheikh Zayed’s life and leadership; “Through Our Nature,” exploring the UAE’s landscapes and natural heritage; and “To Our Ancestors,” highlighting archaeological discoveries over 300,000 years.

Exploring Emirati Culture and Maritime Heritage

Other galleries, such as “Through Our Connections,” explore the impact of new technologies, knowledge, and faith on the region, while “By Our Coasts” emphasizes maritime heritage and trade history. The journey concludes in “To Our Roots,” presenting traditional lifestyles, customs, and social practices across the UAE.

Programs and Visitor Services

The museum’s opening will be accompanied by performances, workshops, guided tours, and cultural activities. Visitors can enjoy dining options, including the Emirati restaurant Erth, Al Ghaf Cafe, and Garden Cafes, providing a full cultural and culinary experience.

Zayed Museum’s Role in Saadiyat Cultural District

Situated alongside world-class institutions like Louvre Abu Dhabi, teamLab Phenomena, and future museums including Guggenheim and Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, Zayed National Museum strengthens the district’s role as a global cultural hub. It encourages learning, cultural exchange, and innovation, positioning Abu Dhabi as a key destination for arts, heritage, and education.

Zayed National Museum stands as a tribute to Sheikh Zayed’s vision, offering visitors a chance to understand the history, identity, and values of the UAE. Its opening marks a significant milestone in the cultural development of Abu Dhabi and the nation’s commitment to preserving and celebrating its heritage.
