Leading international airlines have begun to suspend their services to the Middle East as tensions between the US and Iran continue to escalate. Notable carriers such as KLM, Lufthansa, and Air France have paused operations to popular destinations like Dubai, Riyadh, and Tel Aviv.
Air France has confirmed the suspension of flights to Dubai, citing safety concerns amid the tense geopolitical climate. Similarly, KLM has ceased flights that involve entering the airspace of Iran, Iraq, Israel, and nearby Gulf nations. Lufthansa is now limiting its operations to daytime flights and completely avoiding Iranian airspace. North American airlines, including United Airlines and Air Canada, have also withdrawn services to Tel Aviv.
These disruptions coincide with increasing apprehension regarding a potential military clash between the US and Iran. Recently, US President Donald Trump announced that a significant naval presence is on its way to Iran to ensure safety, contrasting earlier remarks that downplayed the risk of imminent military actions. The White House has also indicated that Iran has momentarily halted executions of protestors amidst recent unrest, although US military preparations continue.
The US naval fleet heading toward the Gulf is comprised of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier and various guided-missile destroyers. Analysts express concerns that this deployment could amplify the risk of regional conflict, compelling airlines to reevaluate their flight paths in consideration of passenger safety.
Authorities in civil aviation have underscored the existing missile and drone threats in the area. Just last week, Iran shut its airspace for more than four hours, impacting international flights and highlighting how rapidly tensions can disrupt global air travel.
Passengers planning travels to Israel or Gulf nations are encouraged to confirm with airlines regarding schedule updates and available alternative routes. The aviation sector remains vigilant in monitoring the situation to ensure passenger safety while striving to maintain crucial air travel services.
