Jerusalem:
Israel has claimed that senior Iranian official Ali Larijani was killed in overnight airstrikes targeting locations inside Iran. However, there is no official confirmation from Iranian authorities yet.
The statement came from Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz, who said Larijani died in the attack. Despite this claim, Iran has remained silent, leaving uncertainty over the situation.
Larijani was a key figure in Iran’s leadership and served as the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council. He was also a former nuclear negotiator and a close associate of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
If the reports are confirmed, Larijani would be among the most senior Iranian officials killed in the ongoing conflict.
According to reports, Larijani was last seen during Quds Day rallies in Tehran on Friday. On the same day, the United States announced a reward of up to $10 million for information on several senior Iranian military and intelligence officials, including him.
Israeli media also reported that Gholamreza Soleimani, head of the Basij Resistance Force, was targeted in the same strikes along with other senior members. Iran has not confirmed any details about casualties.
Meanwhile, Iran’s state media released a statement attributed to Larijani, in which he criticised US President Donald Trump and dismissed claims that recent protests in Iran were not real.
A day earlier, Larijani had urged support from the Islamic world, saying Iran remains firm in its stance against the United States and Israel despite ongoing tensions.
So far, Iran has not issued any official response, and the exact details about the strike and Larijani’s status remain unclear.
