Anthony Joshua Released from Hospital Following Tragic Accident in Nigeria

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Lagos, Nigeria – Anthony Joshua, the former heavyweight boxing champion, is now out of the hospital following a severe car accident in southwestern Nigeria that led to the deaths of two close friends.

The collision happened on Monday on a busy highway that connects Lagos and Ibadan, as Joshua's SUV struck a stationary truck. Reports indicate that he incurred only minor injuries. Sadly, both his long-time strength coach, Sina Ghami, and personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, died on-site.

Initial findings from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) suggest the vehicle was speeding and experienced a tyre blowout before impact. The driver, recently discharged from the hospital, is under police investigation for suspected reckless driving.

Officials from Lagos and Ogun states announced Joshua's release on Wednesday, confirming he is now "clinically fit to recuperate at home." Deeply affected by the loss of his two friends, Joshua, accompanied by his mother, visited the funeral home where arrangements for Ghami and Ayodele are being made.

A British national of Nigerian heritage, Joshua was in Nigeria during the incident. The police have released images depicting the severely damaged black SUV involved in the crash.

In recent events, Joshua accomplished a knockout victory over YouTuber Jake Paul in Miami in December 2025. He has also been rumored to potentially face off against fellow British boxer Tyson Fury, although he previously suffered a setback against Daniel Dubois in September 2024.
