Pop artist Sabrina Carpenter and the publisher behind Franklin the Turtle have expressed their discontent with the Trump administration for misappropriating their artistic content.
Carpenter reacted after her track Juno was featured in a compilation video showing U.S. ICE enforcement actions. She tweeted: “This video is evil and disgusting. Do not ever involve me or my music to benefit your inhumane agenda.” Her lyrics: “Have you ever tried this one? Bye-bye.” were included in the video.
Similarly, the publisher Kids Can Press denounced a recent post by U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that depicted Franklin aiming a bazooka at boats, with a caption reading: “Franklin Targets Narco Terrorists.” The publisher emphasized that Franklin embodies values of empathy, kindness, and inclusivity, and any violent or unauthorized representation fundamentally opposes these principles.
In response, the Pentagon remarked that Franklin “likely wouldn’t support drug cartels or promote the kindness of narco-terrorists.”
This incident reflects a larger movement among various artists—such as Abba, Bruce Springsteen, Olivia Rodrigo, Rihanna, Phil Collins, Beyoncé, and Adele—who have protested the unauthorized use of their works.
