The General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat (Awqaf) has announced a contribution of AED4 million to support the Mother of the Nation Endowment for Orphans initiative. The initiative was launched by the Endowments and Minors’ Funds Authority - Awqaf Abu Dhabi as part of the national Year of Family campaign.
The initiative is held under the patronage of Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates. It aims to establish a sustainable endowment model that ensures continuous support for orphans, particularly in key areas such as education, healthcare, and essential living needs.
The contribution reflects the UAE leadership’s strong commitment to supporting all members of society and strengthening the country’s humanitarian and social development system. It also highlights the values of solidarity, compassion, and social responsibility that continue to guide the nation’s progress.
Dr. Omar Habtour Al Derei, Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, said the contribution supports efforts to create a sustainable endowment model that provides long-term care and opportunities for orphans.
He explained that the initiative aims to provide stable financial resources that help improve the quality of life for orphans while supporting their education and healthcare needs. According to him, the initiative aligns with the UAE’s vision of building a strong and cohesive society based on compassion and solidarity.
Al Derei also reaffirmed that the authority remains committed to supporting national charitable and endowment initiatives through financial support, awareness campaigns, and advisory contributions. These efforts help achieve the humanitarian goals of such initiatives and strengthen their long-term impact.
He highlighted that the concept of waqf (endowment) plays an important role in sustainable charitable work. By preserving the original capital and using its returns for social causes, endowments ensure continuous support for future generations and create lasting social benefits.
Al Derei also praised the continued support of the UAE leadership for charitable and endowment initiatives. He specifically acknowledged the efforts of Fatima bint Mubarak, widely known as the Mother of the Nation, for her long-standing role in strengthening family stability and supporting orphan care in the UAE.
The Mother of the Nation Endowment for Orphans initiative is part of a broader national vision to transform community contributions into sustainable investments. These funds are managed through long-term endowment mechanisms that generate continuous returns, ensuring ongoing support for orphans in areas such as education, healthcare, and daily living needs.
Through this initiative, the UAE aims to improve the quality of life for orphaned children while helping them grow into empowered individuals who can contribute positively to the country’s future development.
