In a historic moment for the global fashion industry, Indian model Bhavitha Mandava has been announced as a house ambassador for the renowned French luxury fashion brand Chanel. With this achievement, she becomes the first Indian model to receive the prestigious title, marking a major milestone for Indian representation in international luxury fashion.
Announcement on Social Media
Bhavitha Mandava shared the news with her followers on Instagram, expressing pride and gratitude for the opportunity. She wrote that Chanel has long represented the spirit of the modern working woman, something she strongly connects with.
She also praised creative director Matthieu Blazy, saying his vision for the brand blends joy with deep respect for Chanel’s legacy. Mandava said she feels honoured to be part of the brand’s new chapter and to represent a fashion house that holds a special place in her heart.
Rising Presence in Chanel Shows
Mandava’s association with Chanel has grown rapidly in recent months. She made her debut on the Chanel runway during Matthieu Blazy’s first collection for the brand.
Soon after, she created history by becoming the first Indian model to open a Chanel show, leading the brand’s Métiers d’Art collection presentation in New York City in December.
In January, the 26-year-old model further strengthened her presence in the fashion world when she closed the Chanel haute couture show in a bridal look. Since then, she has also appeared on the covers of major international fashion magazines, including British Vogue and i-D.
How Her Modelling Journey Began
Interestingly, Bhavitha Mandava did not originally plan to become a model. She was studying for a master’s degree in integrated design and media at New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering when a modelling scout discovered her on the subway.
Within just two weeks of being spotted, she was cast in a runway show by Matthieu Blazy, who was then the creative director of Bottega Veneta. That opportunity marked the beginning of her modelling career, which has now led to one of the most prestigious roles in the fashion industry.
A Prestigious Legacy at Chanel
Chanel has a long tradition of appointing leading models as house ambassadors. In the past, legendary figures like Inès de la Fressange, who represented the brand during Karl Lagerfeld’s era in the 1980s, and Claudia Schiffer, one of the most recognisable faces of Chanel in the early 1990s, have held similar roles.
With Bhavitha Mandava now joining this prestigious list, her appointment marks a significant step forward for Indian talent in global luxury fashion.
