China's Weapon Tests Linked to India-Pakistan Clash, US Report Claims

A bipartisan US panel has reported that China seized the opportunity presented by the India-Pakistan conflict in May to evaluate its advanced military systems in real combat settings.

The recent report indicates that Beijing exploited the four-day confrontation to “test and advocate” its defense technologies. The commission emphasized that China viewed this clash as a practical test bed for observing the performance of its latest equipment under stress.

Initial Combat Application of China’s Advanced Systems

The commission noted that China utilized several advanced weapon systems during the conflict. These included:

• HQ-9 air defense system

• PL-15 long-range air-to-air missiles

• J-10 fighter jets

This incident marked the first deployment of these advanced systems in an active combat scenario. The report stated that China seized this moment to evaluate system efficacy while showcasing the capabilities of its expanding military industry.

China's Military Offering to Pakistan Post-Conflict

Following the conclusion of hostilities, it was reported that China proposed a substantial military package to Pakistan, which included:

• 40 J-35 fifth-generation fighter jets

• KJ-500 early-warning aircraft

• Ballistic missile defense systems

The report concluded that China capitalized on the conflict to accentuate the prowess of its weaponry while seeking to enhance arms sales to Pakistan.

Chinese Diplomatic Efforts After the Conflict

In the period following the conflict, Chinese embassies globally purportedly commended the performance of these new systems. The findings suggest that this was part of a strategy to increase international interest in Chinese military products.

Nonetheless, the panel clarified that it would be inaccurate to label the conflict as a “proxy war,” asserting that China did not instigate the hostilities.

Claims of a Disinformation Campaign Against Rafale Jets

The report also alleges that China engaged in a disinformation campaign aimed at undermining the reputation of the French-manufactured Rafale jets utilized by India.

The findings included:

• China is said to have employed fake social media accounts to disseminate misleading visuals and AI-generated images.

• These images purportedly depicted debris of Rafale jets supposedly destroyed by Chinese armaments.

• The objective was allegedly to block Rafale transactions while promoting China’s own J-35 aircraft.

The report asserted that Chinese officials even persuaded Indonesia to halt an already progressing Rafale acquisition.

In contrast, China has firmly refuted these allegations, contending that the report lacks substantiation.

Conflict Background: Triggers of the India-Pakistan Clash

The conflict between India and Pakistan ignited following a lethal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, resulting in 26 fatalities. Following evidence of cross-border involvement, India initiated Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting multiple terrorist camps within Pakistani territory and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

In retaliation, Pakistan executed missile and drone strikes, although India reported successful interceptions of the threats. Subsequently, Indian forces targeted strategic air bases in Pakistan.

The engagements persisted over four days and culminated in a ceasefire on May 10.
