On Saturday, the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) organized a significant protest at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, attracting students, young professionals, and advocates from across India. The demonstration aimed to push for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan while spotlighting alleged issues within India's exam system.
Protesters, numbering in the hundreds, came equipped with national flags, flowers, and educational materials. A few participants donned cockroach masks, an emblem of the CJP movement. Leading the event was CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who arrived amidst rigorous security measures.
The crowd voiced concerns regarding irregularities and paper leak incidents in examinations like NEET, CBSE, CUET, and SSC, claiming such issues jeopardize the futures of countless students. Shouts emerged demanding accountability for the education failures and calling for Pradhan's resignation.
In his speech, Abhijeet Dipke emphasized the need to hold accountable those responsible for the flaws in the exam system. He advocated for a fair and transparent educational framework and urged the authorities to take decisive steps against misconduct linked to examinations.
The Delhi Police sanctioned the protest at Jantar Mantar between 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM, outlining it as a one-time approval. Officials mandated that the demonstration be peaceful and comply with the stipulated conditions.
In response to the gathering, security measures increased across Central Delhi, with enhanced police presence at key locations like Jantar Mantar, Parliament Street, IGI Airport, train stations, and principal gateways into the city. More than 1,000 officers and paramilitary forces were deployed to uphold law and order.
Barricades were erected around the protest area, and security checks were enforced for attendees. Authorities initiated restrictions in certain areas to manage crowd flow and maintain public safety throughout the event.
Prior to the protest's commencement, Abhijeet Dipke urged participants to maintain discipline and collaborate with law enforcement. He encouraged the display of national pride through flags, books, and flowers, suggesting that flowers be offered to police as a token of respect and non-violent protest.
Students from schools and colleges, alongside young professionals, joined the protest. Many voiced demands for transparency, responsibility, and equity in education. Participants shared concerns regarding the repercussions of alleged exam irregularities on their future prospects.
Throughout the day, Delhi Police and administrative staff vigilantly monitored the situation, stating their preparedness to manage any potential unrest and ensure the maintenance of public order. The demonstration was closely supervised, as voices continued to rise at one of the capital's significant protest venues.
