Returning as the host of Laughter Chefs Season 3, comedian Bharti Singh has stirred up controversy with a recent joke directed at actress Ayesha Khan. The incident occurred during an episode featuring the cast of Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2, where the group performed a dance to the song Pahli Uddi Furrr. What should have been a light-hearted moment took a turn when Bharti humorously compared Ayesha’s height to comedian Krushna Abhishek’s.
Ayesha’s reaction spoke volumes, as she seemed uncomfortable, covering her stomach with her hand and leaning on Kapil Sharma for support. Parul Gulati voiced her disapproval to Bharti, stating, “You shouldn’t have said this.” In response, Bharti dismissed the backlash with, “Sorry, I am pregnant,” attempting to rationalize her comment. This only fueled the ire of viewers, who expressed disappointment on social media.
The viral clip incited numerous criticisms towards Bharti for perpetuating body-shaming. Several viewers pointed out the irony in Bharti’s remarks, as she has built her career partly on her appearance. The online backlash underscored the harmful nature of comments about personal appearances. Many labeled the joke disrespectful and misogynistic, expressing sympathy for Ayesha, who appeared clearly uncomfortable during the segment. Some highlighted the detrimental effects of such comments, especially from public figures, urging the need for greater societal sensitivity.
This episode has ignited discussions regarding the limits of humor and the responsibilities of celebrities while addressing guests on television. While humor can vary in interpretation, it should never compromise an individual's dignity or comfort. The public outrage towards Bharti reflects a growing consciousness regarding respect and equality in media communications. Many fans advocate for a more mindful approach from comedians and television hosts, insisting that humor should enhance rather than demean.
While Bharti Singh is known for her engaging wit and comedic flair, this incident serves as a reminder of the potential pitfalls of humor. The audience is increasingly expecting accountability from public figures when their words can negatively affect others. Conversations surrounding this incident call for a more responsible comedic approach, ensuring that laughter does not undermine someone's self-worth.
