Blast Investigation: Delhi Police Focus on Red Fort Vehicle Movements

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

New Delhi: In a determined effort to investigate the deadly car explosion near the Red Fort on November 10, the Delhi Police Special Cell is actively tracking vehicle movements and questioning drivers who were near the site. This explosive incident resulted in 13 fatalities, over 20 injuries, and significant damage to several cars in the area close to the Red Fort Metro Station.

Authorities compiled a comprehensive list of vehicles that accessed the adjacent parking area where the Hyundai i20, operated by Dr. Umar Nabi, was parked for over three hours before the explosion. Investigators are following up on the registration numbers of those vehicles, interviewing the drivers and owners to ascertain if anyone observed the car and its occupants during that critical period.

“All drivers present at that time are being pursued to determine visibility of the HR-26 vehicle, the number of individuals inside, and any potential companions of Umar,” a source reported. Investigators have also circulated Umar Nabi's image among witnesses to validate whether he was alone in the vehicle or if anyone else entered or exited during the three-hour interval. The main goal is to reconstruct the sequence of events and ascertain if the explosive device was placed within the car at the parking site or transported from another location.

Simultaneously, authorities are examining the roles of Dr. Muzammil Ganaie and other faculty members from Al Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana. Reports indicate that roughly 15 physicians who regularly interacted with Dr. Ganaie are currently unaccounted for. Call records highlight numerous communications between Ganaie and his associates. When authorities attempted to reach them, their phones were off, and a team dispatched to Al Falah University found most of them missing. Investigators are looking into whether these missing individuals contributed to the planning or execution of the alleged terror scheme.

The Red Fort explosion followed the dismantling of a “white collar terror module” earlier that day, which operated across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. This operation resulted in 2,900 kilograms of explosives being seized and the arrest of eight individuals, among whom were three doctors.

Additionally, the Delhi Police has initiated a separate FIR under criminal conspiracy statutes to explore deeper motives and affiliations related to the blast. The prior FIR, associated with the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), has now been transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for extended examination.

Investigators are meticulously piecing together the timeline of events leading to the Red Fort tragedy. By integrating eyewitness testimonies, vehicle tracking, forensic analyses, and digital correspondence, authorities aim to fully disclose the network responsible for this dire terror act and ensure all culprits face justice.

The Red Fort explosion has sent shockwaves through the national capital, sparking urgent inquiries regarding public space security and the potential connections to organized terror groups operating under the guise of professional or educational affiliations. The ongoing inquiry highlights the Delhi Police’s dedication to ensuring accountability and public safety following one of the city’s most distressing attacks in recent years.
