Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), highlighted that DEWA's recent roadshow in China shows Dubai's strong commitment to its Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Net-Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. These strategies aim to make Dubai a global leader in sustainability and green economy.
Al Tayer explained that the roadshow is part of DEWA's efforts to build stronger partnerships with top companies and research centers in renewable energy and energy storage. The goal is to improve the use of clean energy and share the latest updates about the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, which is the largest solar park of its kind in the world.
The DEWA delegation included Waleed bin Salman and Ghanim Alqassim, both key figures at DEWA. During the roadshow, they had meetings and site visits with major companies in the solar and energy storage sectors.
The roadshow followed an earlier event in Dubai where DEWA hosted a roadshow with over 100 solar and energy storage company representatives from around the world. During this China tour, DEWA’s delegation met with top international companies like Sungrow, CRRC, CATL, Tesla, SPIC, and Huawei. They aimed to learn about global best practices in solar and energy storage to support the development of the seventh phase of the solar park and strengthen Dubai’s role in clean energy innovation.
In Shanghai, DEWA held a forum for Chinese solar and energy storage companies. The forum highlighted the achievements of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park and discussed plans for its seventh phase. It also featured an engaging Q&A session, showing DEWA’s transparent approach to collaborating with international clean energy developers.
Currently, 47 international companies are interested in developing the seventh phase of the solar park, which will generate 1,600 megawatts of energy, potentially expanding to 2,000 MW. It will also have a battery storage system with 1,000 MW capacity for six hours, totaling 6,000 megawatt-hours of storage. This phase is expected to be completed between 2027 and 2029, making it one of the largest solar and storage projects in the world.
