Tragic Death of Maharashtra Doctor Triggers Police Inquiry

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

A woman physician from Satara, Maharashtra, was discovered deceased in a hotel room, reportedly having died by suicide. A chilling note on her hand implicated two police officers in sexual and mental harassment over the last five months.

Dr. Sampada Munde, who was affiliated with a government hospital in Phaltan, named Police Sub-Inspector Gopal Badane in her note, claiming he assaulted her multiple times, and accused officer Prashant Bankar of mental abuse. The harrowing message detailed the suffering she endured, leading to her tragic decision.

Her body was recovered late Thursday night and has since been sent for a post-mortem examination. Authorities are conducting a forensic analysis of the note on her hand to confirm its authenticity and piece together the events leading to her death.

In response to the shocking allegations, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered the immediate suspension of the implicated officers and instructed the Satara police to take stern measures against those mentioned in the note. The Chief Minister’s Office assured that the case will be considered with the utmost seriousness.

The deceased’s family has levied serious accusations, alleging that she endured significant pressure and mistreatment from police officials. They are calling for justice and demanding that those responsible receive harsh penalties.

Public indignation is swelling across the state, with opposition leaders urging a prompt investigation. Home Minister Pankaj Bhoyar has confirmed that a thorough inquiry is underway, asserting that anyone found culpable will face stringent legal action.

This incident has reignited discussions about the safety of women within public sectors and underscored the pressing necessity for enhanced accountability within law enforcement.
