Dubai International Airport (DXB) had its busiest first half of the year in 2025. It welcomed 46 million travelers between January and June. This was a 2.3% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Even with temporary problems in regional airspace during May and June, the airport kept operating smoothly. This growth shows how strong and important DXB is in the global travel and aviation industry.

Strong Growth in Second Quarter

In the second quarter of 2025, DXB served 22.5 million travelers. This was a 3.1% increase compared to the second quarter of 2024. The month of April was especially busy. In fact, it was the most active April in DXB's history, with 8 million people traveling through the airport.

Statement from the Airport CEO

Paul Griffiths, the CEO of Dubai Airports, praised the airport’s team and systems. He said the growth during tough regional conditions shows the strength of Dubai and the UAE. He also said the “oneDXB mindset” helped the airport team work together, solve problems quickly, and give travelers a smooth experience.

Expectations for the Second Half of 2025

Looking ahead, DXB expects even more travelers in the second half of 2025. Travel usually increases during late summer when schools reopen and people return from vacations. Travel will also rise during the winter season when many global events in business, sports, and entertainment take place in Dubai.

Dubai Airshow 2025 Will Be a Highlight

One of the most important events in the second half of the year will be the Dubai Airshow 2025. It is expected to be the biggest airshow in Dubai's history. The event will show new ideas in aviation and how Dubai is helping shape the future of air travel and space technology.

Airport Could Reach 96 Million Travelers in 2025

Because of its strong performance in the first half and the positive forecast for the rest of the year, the airport now expects to welcome around 96 million travelers in 2025. This will bring DXB very close to the special milestone of 100 million passengers in one year.

Busy First Half: Daily and Monthly Records

On average, the airport welcomed around 7.7 million travelers per month in the first half of the year. That’s about 254,000 people each day. January was the busiest month, with 8.5 million travelers—making it the highest monthly total ever for DXB.

High Number of Flights and Low Baggage Issues

DXB handled 222,000 flights in the first half of the year. Planes were quite full too, with an average load factor of 76%.

The airport also processed 41.8 million bags, with 91% of them delivered to passengers within 45 minutes of landing. The number of bags that went missing or were mishandled was very low—just 2 out of every 1,000. This is much better than the industry average of 6.3 bags per 1,000 travelers, according to SITA, a leading aviation technology company.

On Track to Break Baggage Record

The airport expects to handle over 85 million bags in 2025. This would break the previous record of 81.2 million bags set in 2024. The busiest baggage days so far were January 3–5, when DXB handled up to 300,000 bags in a single day.

Fast Service at Key Checkpoints

DXB maintained fast service for passengers in key areas of the airport. In the first six months:

  • 99.2% of travelers passed through passport control (departures) in under 10 minutes.
  • 98.4% cleared passport control (arrivals) in under 15 minutes.
  • 98.7% went through security checks in under 5 minutes.

This shows that even with high passenger numbers, the airport gave quick and smooth service.

India Remains Top Country for Visitors

India continued to be the biggest source of travelers using DXB. In the first half of 2025, 5.9 million people came from India. Other top countries were:

  • Saudi Arabia: 3.6 million
  • United Kingdom: 3.0 million
  • Pakistan: 2.1 million
  • United States: 1.6 million

London and Riyadh Top City Destinations

Among cities, London was the most popular destination with 1.8 million travelers. Riyadh was next with 1.5 million. Other top cities included:

  • Mumbai: 1.2 million
  • Jeddah: 1.1 million
  • New Delhi: 1.1 million
  • Istanbul: 982,000

Cargo Volumes Also Increase Slightly

In addition to passengers, DXB also handled a large amount of cargo. The airport moved over 1 million tonnes of cargo in the first six months of 2025. This is a slight increase of 0.1% compared to last year. This shows that DXB is also an important center for trade and global shipping.

Wide Global Connectivity Still a Strength

As of now, DXB connects travelers to more than 269 destinations across 107 countries. These routes are served by more than 92 international airlines. This strong network helps Dubai attract tourists, business visitors, and investors, and helps the city grow.

Preparing for a Busy Second Half

With the second half of the year underway, Dubai is ready to welcome even more travelers. From the back-to-school travel rush to winter events, the city will be very busy. DXB will play a key role in this, helping connect Dubai to the world.

The upcoming Dubai Airshow will be a key moment. It will not only highlight the size of Dubai's aviation sector but also show how the city is working toward the future of air and space travel.

A Major Global Travel Hub

Dubai International Airport continues to prove itself as one of the busiest and best-run airports in the world. From handling millions of passengers and bags smoothly to offering quick services and strong global connections, DXB is a model for how modern airports should operate. As 2025 moves forward, the airport is on track to set more records and support Dubai's growing role in global travel, business, and tourism.
