Dubai Forms Civility Committee To Enhance Urban Aesthetics

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

In line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the most beautiful and advanced city in the world, a new governance body has been created. His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, has issued a Resolution to establish the Dubai Civility Committee.

Leadership Of The Committee

The newly established committee will be chaired by Mohammad bin Abdullah Al Gergawi. Supporting him will be the Chairman of the Supreme Committee of Urban Planning, who will serve as Vice Chairman. Other members include the Secretary-General of The Executive Council of Dubai, the Director-General of the Crown Prince’s Office, the Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, the Director-General of the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism, and the Director-General of Dubai Municipality. This diverse leadership structure reflects the wide-ranging importance of the committee’s work.

Purpose Of The Committee

The main purpose of the Dubai Civility Committee is to support the city’s mission to enhance its aesthetic appeal and global image. Its role is closely linked with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which focuses on sustainability, livability, and beauty in the city’s urban landscape. The committee will ensure Dubai continues to be recognized worldwide as a model of beauty, harmony, and modern living.

Preserving Dubai’s Architectural Identity

One of the key responsibilities of the committee is to preserve and reinforce Dubai’s unique architectural identity. The city is known for its blend of futuristic skyscrapers, innovative design, and traditional cultural elements. The committee aims to strike the right balance between progress and heritage, ensuring that Dubai’s skyline and neighborhoods maintain both modern elegance and cultural character.

Improving Urban Visual Appearance

The committee will focus on addressing aspects of the city’s urban environment that detract from its overall aesthetic quality. By identifying unsightly elements and proposing solutions, the committee will reinforce Dubai’s visual identity in line with approved urban planning guidelines. This includes ensuring consistency in design, landscaping, and infrastructure projects that contribute to the city’s beauty.

Identifying And Addressing Challenges

Beyond preserving aesthetics, the committee is also tasked with analyzing emerging urban challenges. These challenges may include population growth, environmental impact, and rapid infrastructure development. By studying such issues and anticipating their effects, the committee can develop strategies and action plans to address them proactively.

Setting Strategies And Policies

The Dubai Civility Committee will set out strategic directions and policies that promote positive practices in urban design and aesthetics. It will approve plans in coordination with the Supreme Committee for Urban Planning and ensure they are properly implemented. The focus will be on creating policies that encourage responsible development while enhancing the city’s beauty.

Monitoring Progress And Results

The committee will not only create plans but also monitor their outcomes. Members will review the implementation of projects, assess results, and report on progress at every stage. They will also identify areas that require improvement and assign responsibilities to relevant authorities. Regular reviews will ensure accountability and continuous improvement.

Use Of Technology And AI

Advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, will play a crucial role in the committee’s work. AI will be used to detect negative urban trends early and propose solutions before they escalate. This technological approach reflects Dubai’s wider commitment to innovation and smart city development. By combining human insight with AI-driven tools, the committee will ensure efficient decision-making.

Cooperation Among Government Entities

All government entities involved in shaping Dubai’s urban landscape will be required to cooperate with the Dubai Civility Committee. They will provide data, reports, statistics, and studies to support strategy development. This collaboration ensures that decision-making is based on accurate information and that all stakeholders contribute to the shared goal of a more beautiful and advanced city.

Commitment To Global Excellence

The formation of the Dubai Civility Committee reflects Dubai’s strong commitment to excellence in urban living. By focusing on beauty, harmony, and innovation, the emirate continues to set global benchmarks for city development. The committee’s work will help maintain Dubai’s position as a leading example of how modern cities can combine aesthetics with progress.
