Dubai Phase 7: 2,000 MW PV and 1,400 MW / 6‑Hour Battery Added to Solar Park

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Dubai is advancing its clean‑energy rollout. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park will expand under DEWA's announced seventh phase. This stage will deliver 2 000 megawatts of photovoltaic generation together with a large 1 400 MW battery storage system designed for six‑hour discharge — amounting to 8 400 megawatt‑hours of storage capacity.

DEWA has invited globally qualified companies and consortiums to submit proposals under the independent power producer (IPP) model. The development supports Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, both aiming for 100% of the emirate’s power capacity from clean sources by mid‑century.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, DEWA’s MD & CEO, described Phase 7 as a strategic move to broaden the energy mix, increase the renewable share and bolster Dubai’s role as a sustainability and innovation centre. Dubai has lifted its 2030 renewables target from 25% to 36%. With Phase 7 included, the solar park is projected to reach 8 060 MW by 2030, avoiding more than 8.5 million tonnes of CO₂ annually.

The park currently has 3 860 MW in operation, with 800 MW under construction; adding Phase 7 will markedly raise output and integrate large‑scale storage with generation, helping convert intermittent supply into dependable clean power.
