Dubai Press Club Hosts Workshop on UAE Media Content Standards to Promote Responsible Journalism

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

The Dubai Press Club, in collaboration with the National Media Authority (NMA), hosted a specialised workshop titled 'The UAE's Media Content Standards' to strengthen awareness of the country's evolving media regulations and encourage the production of responsible, high-quality content.

The workshop brought together senior government officials, media professionals, content creators, and industry specialists to discuss the UAE's legislative framework governing traditional and digital media.

Dubai Press Club and National Media Authority Hold Media Standards Workshop

The session was presented by His Excellency Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, Vice Chairman of the National Media Authority, and attended by Her Excellency Nehal Badri, Secretary General of the Dubai Media Council, and Maryam Al Mulla, Director of Dubai Press Club.

The event formed part of the Dubai Press Club's ongoing Media Workshops series, which aims to keep media professionals informed about the latest developments in journalism, digital content, and media legislation.

UAE Focuses on Modernising Media Regulations

Her Excellency Mona Ghanem Al Marri, Vice Chairperson and Managing Director of the Dubai Media Council and President of the Dubai Press Club, praised the National Media Authority's efforts to modernise the UAE's legislative and regulatory framework.

She said these reforms are helping build a media environment that encourages innovation, creativity, and professional excellence while strengthening the UAE's position as a leading regional and global media hub.

Al Marri added that the workshop supports greater understanding of national media policies and encourages the creation of professional content that reflects Emirati values and national identity.

UAE Media Regulation Law Designed for a Changing Media Landscape

During the workshop, Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi highlighted the Media Regulation Law and its executive regulations approved in 2023.

He explained that the updated legal framework is designed to:

  • Keep pace with rapid developments in the media industry.
  • Support investment and innovation in the media sector.
  • Encourage the production of high-quality local content.
  • Align media practices with national values and international professional standards.

Al Shehhi stressed that the regulations are intended to support creativity rather than limit it, while protecting society, preserving national identity, and enhancing the UAE's international reputation.

New UAE Media Ecosystem Covers Digital Media and AI

Participants also received an overview of the UAE's expanding media ecosystem, including regulations covering:

  • Digital media platforms
  • Electronic gaming
  • Artificial intelligence (AI)
  • On-demand streaming services
  • Media licensing and service fees
  • Administrative violations and penalties

The workshop explained how these regulations are designed to create a flexible, transparent, and future-ready media sector.

Protecting Society from Harmful Content

A major focus of the workshop was safeguarding the public from harmful or misleading content.

The discussions highlighted the importance of:

  • Combating misinformation and fake news
  • Verifying information using official sources
  • Respecting personal privacy
  • Protecting children from inappropriate content
  • Preventing inflammatory or harmful material

Officials said these standards are essential for maintaining public trust and ensuring a responsible media environment.

Dubai Press Club Reinforces Knowledge Sharing

Maryam Al Mulla said the workshop reflects the Dubai Press Club's commitment to creating opportunities for dialogue between media professionals and government leaders.

She noted that partnerships with the National Media Authority help ensure journalists and content creators remain informed about legislative changes while supporting the production of ethical, professional, and future-focused media content.
