A magnitude 3.3 earthquake was registered in San Ramon, California, on late Monday night according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). This seismic occurrence took place at around 10:47 p.m. local time close to Alcosta Boulevard and Canyon Hills Road, with the epicenter approximately six miles deep.
Residents in neighboring cities like Pleasanton, Walnut Creek, and Danville reported experiencing mild shaking as noted by the USGS “Did You Feel It” system. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, and officials have not issued any alarms.
This recent quake follows a pattern of tremors in the vicinity, with notable activity on November 9, when eight quakes occurred within three hours, the most significant registering at 3.8 magnitude. The event on November 18 is consistent with existing local fault lines, suggesting ongoing low-level seismic activity in the San Ramon area.
Experts indicate that quakes of this size are prevalent in Northern California, typically resulting in minor ground shaking. While shallow quakes like this one can be perceived over broader distances, they seldom inflict substantial damage. The USGS is continuing to keep tabs on the region and advises residents to stay informed about earthquake preparedness.
Local officials have confirmed that there was no need for an emergency response, stressing that minor earthquakes such as this are common in an area that is situated close to several active faults.
This event underscores the continuous seismic activity in the East Bay region, reminding the community of the essential nature of preparing for earthquakes and maintaining safety protocols.
