Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

Simiatug, Ecuador – November 17, 2025: A catastrophic bus accident on an inter-provincial route in central Ecuador has led to the deaths of at least 12 individuals and injuries to 10 others, as confirmed by local authorities on Sunday. The collision took place on the Simiatug-Ambato route, leaving the community reeling and emergency services deployed rapidly to the location.

Ecuador’s national disaster response agency shared the details of the casualties via social media, with the attorney general’s office stating that the bus was navigating the busy Simiatug-Ambato corridor at the time of the incident. Investigations are ongoing as initial reports point toward a possible collision or a loss of control.

Emergency teams arrived swiftly, administering medical care to those injured and managing the site of the incident. Several victims were swiftly transported to local hospitals for immediate assistance. Authorities have initiated an inquiry to establish the underlying cause of the crash and ensure that safety protocols were observed.

Residents from Simiatug and Ambato voiced their sorrow and concerns, advocating for enhanced road safety protocols on these inter-provincial routes. Transportation officials have called upon bus operators to rigorously follow speed limits and safety measures to avert future calamities.

The Ministry of Transport has committed to fully collaborating with the investigative process and has announced that aid will be provided to the victims' families, encompassing both counseling and financial support for medical costs.

This harrowing event underscores the enduring safety issues on Ecuador’s highways, especially on routes linking provincial areas. A comprehensive report is anticipated in the coming days, detailing possible legal repercussions for those accountable.

While communities grieve, emergency services remain dedicated to ensuring the recovery of the injured and that safety measures are reinforced to prevent repeat tragedies in the future.
