The Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF) has officially announced the names of eight football clubs that will take part in the second edition of the Gulf Club Champions League for the 2025–2026 season. This tournament is a major step in improving football among Gulf nations. It brings top clubs together to compete and to promote cooperation, skill development, and sportsmanship in the region. The announcement is part of AGCFF’s efforts to prepare for a strong and professional football competition that showcases the region’s growing talent.

Clubs Selected from Eight Member Nations

The list of participating clubs includes one team from each of the eight member national associations. These are some of the most well-known clubs in their countries. The selected clubs are Al Rayyan from Qatar, Al Ain from the United Arab Emirates, Sitra from Bahrain, Al Shabab from Saudi Arabia, Zakho from Iraq, Al Nahda from Oman, Tadamon Hadramaut from Yemen, and Al Qadisiya from Kuwait. Each of these clubs has been nominated by their country’s football association, based on their performance and reputation in their domestic leagues.

Second Edition of the Tournament Begins

This is the second time that the Gulf Club Champions League will be held. The tournament was first introduced in the 2024–2025 season and was well received by fans and football officials alike. AGCFF has taken steps to make the second edition even better by improving logistics, scheduling, and overall organization. The tournament is designed to grow into a regular feature on the Gulf football calendar, helping clubs gain regional experience and recognition.

Duhok SC Were the First Champions

The first edition of the Gulf Club Champions League ended with Iraq’s Duhok SC lifting the trophy. They beat Kuwait’s Al Qadisiya SC in the final, which was played over two legs. The first leg ended in a goalless draw, but Duhok won 2-1 in the second leg to claim the title. This made them the first-ever champions of the tournament, and their victory was celebrated across Iraq. The win also showed that Gulf clubs have the skill and potential to compete at high levels.

Purpose: Developing Football Across the Gulf

The main goal of the Gulf Club Champions League is not just to crown a winner but to improve the standard of football in the region. By bringing together clubs from different Gulf countries, the tournament provides a chance for players, coaches, and staff to share knowledge and experiences. This helps everyone grow and learn from each other. The AGCFF hopes that this competition will encourage clubs to invest in training, youth development, and professional coaching.

Opportunities for Young Football Players

One of the important goals of the tournament is to give younger players a chance to shine. When they play in a regional competition like this, they gain exposure to new styles of play, stronger opponents, and tougher challenges. This helps them build confidence and improve their game. Many of these young players dream of playing internationally, and tournaments like the Gulf Club Champions League provide the perfect training ground for that.

Fans Await with Great Excitement

The announcement of the club list has brought a wave of excitement among football fans in the Gulf region. People in Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and other participating countries are looking forward to watching their clubs compete against regional rivals. Clubs like Al Shabab, Al Ain, and Al Rayyan already have large fanbases and strong football traditions. At the same time, clubs like Sitra and Tadamon Hadramaut are eager to prove themselves and surprise everyone with their performances.

Strengthening Regional Unity Through Sport

Football is more than just a game—it is also a powerful tool for building unity and cooperation. The Gulf Club Champions League gives teams the opportunity to travel, meet people from other countries, and share in the excitement of sport. Through fair competition, respect, and teamwork, the tournament encourages friendly relations between Gulf nations. It helps to create a shared regional identity and encourages dialogue and mutual understanding.

Promoting Professional Growth in Football

Besides the competition on the field, the tournament also helps promote professional growth among the clubs. Coaches can observe new tactics, clubs can learn how to manage events better, and administrators can understand how to organize bigger sports platforms. These professional benefits can then be applied in their home countries, raising the overall quality of football across the Gulf region. It also encourages clubs to invest more in infrastructure, player welfare, and training systems.

Planning and Broadcasting Underway

The AGCFF is now working closely with national federations to finalize the match schedule and venues. The tournament will likely be played in different cities across the participating countries. There are also plans to broadcast the matches on TV and online platforms. This will allow fans from all over the region—and even the world—to watch the games live. The Federation will soon release more details, including the official fixture list and rules.

Economic and Media Benefits for Host Cities

Organizing a tournament of this size also brings economic benefits to the host cities. When football teams travel for matches, they stay in hotels, eat at restaurants, and use local services. This increases business for local companies and creates temporary jobs. In addition, the media coverage from the event helps promote the city and the country as a destination for sports tourism. It also attracts sponsors and partners who want to be part of a growing football platform.

Building the Future of Gulf Football

The AGCFF has long-term plans to expand and improve the Gulf Club Champions League. In future editions, more teams might be added, new formats may be introduced, and the tournament could even partner with international leagues. The ultimate aim is to make this competition one of the top football events in Asia, giving Gulf clubs the chance to perform on larger stages and bring honor to their home nations.

A Tournament That Builds More Than Just Champions

The 2025–2026 Gulf Club Champions League is more than just a sporting event. It is a platform for growth, learning, and unity. It helps young players build careers, coaches exchange knowledge, and countries strengthen friendships through sport. The eight selected clubs are ready to represent their nations with pride and determination. Fans are preparing to support their teams with passion. The Gulf region is coming together once again to celebrate football—not just as a game, but as a bridge between people.
