Dubai, November 17, 2025 — Emirates, the largest international airline globally, has made a significant move by ordering 65 Boeing 777-9 jets equipped with GE9X engines, valued at $38 billion according to list prices. This announcement was made on the first day of the Dubai Airshow 2025, reinforcing Emirates' dominance as the leading operator of the Boeing 777 series and marking a substantial commitment to the global aerospace sector.
With the new order, Emirates' total for Boeing widebody airplanes now stands at 315, which includes 270 Boeing 777Xs, 10 freighters, and 35 Boeing 787s. Additionally, the airline's total demand for GE9X engines is now at 540 units, with today’s confirmation of 130 new engines. This large investment is projected to bolster numerous high-quality aerospace manufacturing jobs in the U.S. during the program's lifetime.
HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, who heads Emirates Airline and Group, pointed out the strategic significance of this purchase: “Every aircraft in our order has been meticulously aligned with our long-term growth strategy, which harmonizes with Dubai’s vision. Operating a modern and technologically advanced fleet has always been pivotal to Emirates, and we anticipate welcoming our initial 777-9s in Q2 2027, outfitted with cutting-edge onboard products.”
This agreement also supports Boeing's feasibility studies for the 777-10, a larger variant of the 777X family. Emirates has the option to interchange part of its 777-9 order for the 777-10 or 777-8, demonstrating confidence in the evolution of larger, more efficient jets suitable for rising global air traffic and airport limitations.
Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, expressed gratitude for the renewed collaboration: “We are immensely honored that Emirates has selected the Boeing 777X for its future endeavors. For the past 40 years, Boeing has supported Emirates in expanding its fleet and global operations. Today’s order reinforces that partnership and guarantees that Emirates will be flying Boeing aircraft for many years to come.”
Russell Stokes, President & CEO of Commercial Engines & Services for GE Aerospace, also welcomed the order: “We’re excited to strengthen our partnership with Emirates. Already the largest client for both GE90 and GP7200 engines globally, this new GE9X order further demonstrates Emirates' trust in our technology and proficiency, and we’re prepared to assist their future development.”
Over its 40-year history, Emirates has operated every variant of the Boeing 777 family and currently boasts the largest 777 fleet worldwide, featuring 119 Boeing 777-300ERs, 10 Boeing 777-200LRs, and 11 freighters, linking Dubai to over 140 cities across the globe.
The expanded orderbook indicates that Boeing will continue delivering aircraft to Emirates until 2038, providing a long-term boost to the U.S. aerospace sector while ensuring Emirates maintains a modern, fuel-efficient, and technologically advanced fleet.
This agreement underscores the continued importance of Emirates in shaping global aviation dynamics, the airline's commitment to Dubai’s economic objectives, and its crucial role in fostering strong U.S.-UAE aerospace relations. By growing its 777X fleet, Emirates secures its status as a leader in global aviation while promoting advancements in travel efficiency, comfort, and sustainability.
