Doha Hosts GCC Basketball Meetings to Develop Regional Game

Post by : Mariam Al-Faris

Doha will host meetings of the heads of GCC basketball federations and the board of directors of the Gulf Basketball Association on Thursday. The sessions are organized by the Qatar Basketball Federation and will bring together top officials and representatives from Gulf federations, along with prominent sports administrators.

Focus on Game Development

The meetings aim to discuss the future of basketball in the Gulf and Arab regions. Participants will explore ways to improve technical and organizational standards in line with global developments in the sport. The discussions are expected to focus on enhancing performance and creating stronger competitive platforms for teams and clubs.

Boosting Participation in Arab Championships

Officials will explore initiatives to increase participation in Arab championships, enabling teams to compete at continental and global levels. This effort aims to raise the standards of Gulf basketball while allowing players to gain more exposure and experience against top international teams.

Cooperation with Regional Federations

Plans for strengthening collaboration with Arab and Asian basketball federations will also be reviewed. The meetings will include discussions on coordinating Gulf championship schedules and expanding participation in age-group competitions, especially 3x3 basketball, which is gaining popularity across the region.

Unified Vision for Gulf Basketball

Secretary-General of the Gulf Basketball Association, Saadoun Sabah Al Kuwari, described the meetings as a major milestone in aligning visions among GCC federations. He emphasized the importance of teamwork to develop the sport and increase its presence at regional and international levels.

Qatar’s Role in Supporting Sports

Al Kuwari highlighted Qatar’s ongoing support for Gulf and Arab sports, praising the Qatar Basketball Federation for hosting the event. He noted that Doha has become a preferred destination for sports meetings due to its excellent infrastructure, professional organization, and commitment to promoting major tournaments.

The discussions aim to unify technical, administrative, and strategic approaches across Gulf federations. By sharing expertise and aligning objectives, the GCC basketball federations hope to enhance regional integration in sports and raise the competitiveness of teams across all levels.

The Doha meetings mark a significant step in the development of basketball in the Gulf, reinforcing cooperation, improving standards, and positioning the region as a growing hub for the sport.
