German authorities have detained 18 people following a coordinated international operation aimed at an alleged online fraud and money‑laundering network. The action was carried out with the support of domestic payment service providers and law enforcement partners in several countries.
Prosecutors say investigators found that between 2016 and 2021 the suspects misused credit card data belonging to roughly 4.3 million individuals across 193 nations. The scheme is reported to have caused financial damage in excess of €300 million.
Germany’s prosecutors and the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) described the operation as part of sustained efforts to tackle large-scale cybercrime and transnational financial fraud. Officials highlighted the arrests as evidence of the expanding global risk posed by online financial crime and the importance of international and industry cooperation.
The inquiry remains active, with authorities following money trails and communications records to uncover further suspects and disrupt future fraud activity.
The crackdown underscores Germany’s resolve to safeguard consumers, the banking system, and international markets from intricate cybercriminal networks.
