Louvre Abu Dhabi is excited to announce the opening of its second call for proposals under the 2026 Fellowships and Grants Programme, aimed at promoting innovative research in art history, museum studies, and heritage science. This new cycle follows the enthusiastic participation seen in the inaugural 2025 session and continues the museum’s commitment to enhancing knowledge through cultural academic exchange.
Scholars globally are encouraged to submit proposals that directly relate to the museum’s extensive collection, archives, and research resources. This initiative seeks to inspire original thought and aim for a broader comprehension of global artistic connections, pushing beyond conventional narratives.
The application window will close on 7 February 2026, with submissions being reviewed by a panel of distinguished experts. Announcements of selected fellows will be made in May 2026.
This year’s call is structured around three primary themes. The first, Global History of Museums and Collections, investigates the evolution of museums within different cultural settings, alongside how practices of collecting, exhibiting, and visitor interactions have influenced the universal concept of museums.
The second theme, Circulation of Styles, Images and Texts, delves into how artistic concepts, objects, and visual languages have crossed paths through trade, migration, and cultural exchange—showcasing their impact on artistic development across various regions and historical periods.
Lastly, the third theme, Precious Materials and Routes of Exchange, analyzes the transfer of materials and craftsmanship along historical trade routes—from the Silk Roads to maritime exchanges—and how these movements have influenced artistic creation.
Chosen researchers will have access to the Louvre Abu Dhabi Resource Centre and its cutting-edge Scientific Laboratory, noted to be the first of its kind in the Gulf region. These facilities are designed for advanced materials research, conservation efforts, and art historical analysis. Furthermore, fellows will engage in internal workshops and knowledge-sharing initiatives with the museum community.
Opportunities available include both short-term (three months) and long-term (nine months) fellowships, welcoming applications from regional scholars as well as international candidates. Proposals must be submitted in English via the museum’s official website.
The 2026 programme represents a significant progression in Louvre Abu Dhabi’s mission to fortify global research networks and promote studies that reassess artistic histories through a more interconnected approach.
