Gulf Air, the national airline of Bahrain, is set to elevate its global presence by finalizing an order for 15 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, including options for three additional aircraft. This initiative is part of the airline’s strategic plan to broaden its international network and improve the passenger experience. The announcement, made at the Dubai Airshow, showcases Gulf Air’s growing aspirations in the aviation sector.
With this new order, the airline's commitment to the 787 Dreamliner increases to 17 aircraft as it adds three more jets to its existing order from July 2025. The Dreamliners are recognized for their fuel efficiency, state-of-the-art technology, and enhanced passenger comfort, which are integral to the airline's plans for long-haul growth.
The agreement was finalized by Martin Gauss, CEO of Gulf Air, alongside Brad McMullen, Boeing’s Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing. Gulf Air Group Chairman Khalid Husain Taqi expressed excitement about this acquisition, calling it a “significant milestone in Gulf Air’s long-term fleet strategy.” He highlighted that these aircraft will enable the airline to boost its capacity, enhance long-haul operations, and offer a more sustainable travel experience.
Stephanie Pope, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, also commended the collaboration, emphasizing that the choice of the 787 Dreamliner reflects its efficiency and passenger-centric design. She noted that this aircraft will be fundamental to Gulf Air’s fleet and its commitment to operational excellence and expansion.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, known for its cutting-edge aerodynamics and environmentally friendly design, enables carriers to operate longer routes with minimal ecological impact, while providing passengers with a more tranquil and comfortable flying experience. Gulf Air’s investment in these modern aircraft underlines its dedication to reinforcing Bahrain's position in the global aviation arena.
Although the delivery schedule for these new 787s is yet to be announced, the addition is anticipated to boost Gulf Air's capacity in premium long-haul sectors, enhancing connectivity and comfort for travelers. By expanding its widebody fleet with Boeing's next-generation jets, Gulf Air aims to secure its footing on an international scale, marrying innovative technology with efficient operations to meet the rising demand for global travel.
This fleet expansion takes place amid a highly competitive Middle Eastern aviation environment, where airlines are making significant investments in modern aircraft and sustainable solutions to attract travelers worldwide. Gulf Air’s commitment to the 787 Dreamliner emphasizes its dual focus on passenger experience and environmental stewardship, in line with the global movement for more sustainable aviation.
With the integration of 15 new Dreamliners, Gulf Air is ready to boost growth, increase operational efficiency, and reinforce its long-haul network, affirming its position as a key regional carrier with a substantial international presence.
