Harry Williams, an 11-year-old British go-karting sensation, has etched his name in history by becoming the youngest participant of McLaren’s Formula 1 Young Driver Development Programme. His entry underscores McLaren’s ongoing dedication to developing young racing talents from a very early age.
Prior to Williams, the youngest member was Ella Hakkinen, daughter of two-time Formula 1 champion Mika Hakkinen, who joined at 14 last year.
McLaren's Young Driver Programme has an impressive history of cultivating elite talent, including seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton, who entered the fold at age 13 in 1998, and current titleholder Lando Norris.
Alessandro Alunni Bravi, McLaren's Chief Commercial Officer, expressed that the team is committed to establishing a clear path for young drivers. This trajectory is aimed at supporting their advancement into premier racing leagues such as Formula 1, IndyCar, and the World Endurance Championship in the approaching years.
He further highlighted that Harry Williams’ appointment as a promising young kart driver exemplifies McLaren’s investment in the next generation of racing stars.
