Hrithik Roshan Lightens the Mood on War 2’s Box Office Struggles

Post by : Meena Hassan

Hrithik Roshan has humorously responded to the underwhelming box office performance of his much-anticipated action thriller War 2.

Released on August 14 during the Independence Day weekend, War 2 features Hrithik alongside Jr NTR and is part of the YRF Spy Universe, which previously produced hits like Ek Tha Tiger and Pathaan. However, despite high hopes, the film garnered mixed reviews and didn't meet its financial expectations, grossing ₹236.55 crore in India and ₹364.35 crore globally, falling short of its ₹400 crore budget. Critics pointed to lackluster writing and poor visual effects as significant drawbacks.

At a recent launch event in Dubai at the Coca Cola Arena, when introduced as a “global icon” to cheers from the crowd, Hrithik quipped, “That’s very kind of you… You know, my film just bombed at the box office, so it feels very good to get all the love. Thank you.” His self-deprecating humor was well-received, and attendees appreciated his approachable nature.

On Instagram, Hrithik also reminisced about his role as Kabir, noting, “Playing Kabir was so much fun. I was relaxed and knew him so well.” He acknowledged the support from director Ayan Mukerji, which made the filming experience enjoyable due to Mukerji's energetic approach.

Despite facing challenges, Hrithik candidly addressed the film's unexpected result, expressing a sense of doubt during filming, “This is too easy… I know this too well.” He shared that not all cinematic endeavors require struggle, saying, “Just relax.”

Moreover, War 2 included performances from actors Kiara Advani and Ashutosh Rana. The film encountered tough competition at the box office, notably from Rajinikanth’s Coolie, which impacted its earnings. Nevertheless, Hrithik’s humorous and transparent outlook on the film’s performance has garnered appreciation from fans, showcasing his resilience in the face of setbacks.
