The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has announced the successful transit of the semi-submersible heavy-lift vessel HUA RUI LONG through the Suez Canal as part of the southbound convoy.
The vessel arrived from Singapore via the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and is heading to Denmark. It is carrying the ship NORTHERN ENDEAVOUR. The HUA RUI LONG is owned by the Guangzhou Salvage Bureau and was built in 2022.
The ship measures 252 metres in length and 77 metres in width, with a gross tonnage of 115,254 tonnes. Since its width exceeds the canal’s standard 75-metre limit, special navigation arrangements were required to ensure a safe passage.
Admiral Osama Rabiee, Chairman of the SCA, said the vessel was escorted by four tugboats and guided by six senior pilots. The transit was closely monitored in real time by the main traffic office and pilotage stations along the canal.
He added that the canal handled 27 similar vessels in 2025 and four more since the beginning of this year. The Southern Sector Development Project has improved navigational safety by 28 percent and widened the canal by 40 metres to the east.
According to the SCA, choosing the Suez Canal route saves around 3,432 nautical miles compared to alternative routes. This helps reduce transit time, operating costs, and carbon emissions, making it an efficient option for global shipping.
