Global Outcry Grows After Horrific Blast Near Delhi's Red Fort

Post by : Raina Al-Fahim

New Delhi — Following a tragic car explosion close to Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday evening, which resulted in the loss of nine lives and injuries to over 20 individuals, condolences and shock have reverberated globally. Authorities have confirmed the incident as a terror attack, catalyzing an urgent investigation.

The explosion ignited fires that consumed multiple vehicles nearby, scattering debris across the scene. In response, officials heightened security alerts at key landmarks throughout Delhi, including its metro stations, airports, and government facilities.

According to Home Minister Amit Shah, the blast was linked to a Hyundai i20. He emphasized, “We are examining all possibilities and will conduct an exhaustive investigation,” adding that CCTV from the vicinity will be scrutinized.

International Reactions and Expressions of Sympathy

Countries including the United States, United Kingdom, France, Argentina, Sri Lanka, Iran, Morocco, and Australia have publicly expressed their condolences and updates regarding travel advisories for Indian travelers.

The US Embassy in New Delhi advised its citizens to “steer clear of the Red Fort and Chandni Chowk areas” and urged them to stay vigilant. They expressed their heartfelt sympathies to those affected by the explosion.

Meanwhile, the UK High Commission modified its travel alert, advising British nationals to heed local authorities’ guidance. “My thoughts are with all impacted by the explosion near the Red Fort,” remarked Lindy Cameron, the British High Commissioner to India.

French Ambassador Thierry Mathou conveyed condolences “on behalf of the French people and government,” while Argentina’s Ambassador Mariano Caucino voiced solidarity with India, offering prayers for the victims’ families.

Statements of empathy and condemnation were also issued by Sri Lanka, Morocco, Australia, and Iran, extending support to India during this somber period.

Ongoing Investigation

Preliminary findings suggest that the explosion was strategically timed to coincide with the bustling evening rush hour near this iconic site, known for its heavy foot traffic. Forensic and anti-terror teams are actively working to gather evidence from the blast site.

Investigators confirmed that at least eight of the deceased were in or around the vehicle at the time of the explosion, though formal identifications are yet pending.

The Delhi Police, in collaboration with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and various intelligence units, are undertaking extensive operations to ascertain the sources of the explosives and any potential terrorist connections.

Enhanced Security Measures Nationwide

In the wake of the explosion, security protocols have been significantly tightened not only in Delhi but also in major cities such as Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai. Authorities are urging the public to stay alert and report any suspicious behavior.

As the capital mourns, this attack has catalyzed conversations regarding urban security and readiness against the rising tide of international terror threats.
