Iran Claims Strikes Hit US Bases in Kuwait and Bahrain

Iran Claims Strikes Hit US Bases in Kuwait and Bahrain

Post by : Bianca Haleem

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Monday that it had carried out fresh attacks on US military facilities in Kuwait, claiming to have destroyed key defence infrastructure at two major air bases.

According to the IRGC, the strikes targeted fuel storage tanks and Patriot air defence systems at Ali Al-Salem Air Base, along with a strategic FPS radar system at Ahmed Al-Jaber Air Base in Kuwait. The IRGC described the operation as part of the third phase of its retaliatory campaign against the United States.

IRGC Says Attacks Were Response to US Military Action

The IRGC said the strikes were conducted by its aerospace forces under its "eye-for-an-eye" operation in response to recent US military action against Iran. It also stated that military operations would continue across the region.

In its statement, the IRGC warned against further US military involvement in the Strait of Hormuz, saying Tehran would not allow continued foreign military intervention in the strategic waterway.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most important maritime routes, carrying nearly one-fifth of global energy traffic. The waterway has become a major point of dispute in ongoing efforts to reduce tensions between the United States and Iran.

Kuwait Hosts Major US Military Presence

Kuwait is one of the United States' key regional allies and hosts around 13,000 US military personnel. The Ali Al-Salem Air Base and Ahmed Al-Jaber Air Base serve as important facilities for US Central Command (CENTCOM) operations and regional air defence activities.

Iranian Army Says Drone Attacks Continue

In a separate statement carried by Iran's IRNA news agency, the Iranian Army said drone operations against US military bases in the region were continuing.

The army claimed it had launched what it described as "destructive drone" attacks targeting US forces in Kuwait, along with defence and missile systems.

The statement also accused the United States of carrying out repeated attacks on Iranian military sites, civilian infrastructure and civilians. It described those actions as a "blatant violation" of the principles of the United Nations Charter.

IRGC Also Claims Strike on Bahrain Air Base

Earlier on Monday, the IRGC said it had launched the second phase of its retaliatory operation by targeting facilities at Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain.

According to the IRGC, the attack focused on helicopter maintenance facilities, a hangar housing a P-8 aircraft, and a US military drone command-and-control centre located at the air base.

US Says Strikes Targeted Iranian Capabilities

The latest developments came after the United States launched fresh strikes inside Iran early Monday.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the military action was intended to reduce Iran's ability to threaten civilian ships and commercial maritime traffic passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

In a post on X, CENTCOM stated: "At 5 p.m. ET today, U.S. Central Command forces began launching more strikes against Iran to continue degrading their ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial ships freely transiting the Strait of Hormuz."

The US military said the strikes were carried out following attacks on vessels operating in the strategic waterway.

Commercial Ship Attack Raises Regional Tensions

The renewed military confrontation follows an attack by Tehran on a commercial vessel travelling through the Strait of Hormuz early Sunday. The ship's crew abandoned the vessel after it caught fire following the strike.

As fighting intensifies across West Asia, concerns continue to grow over the security of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The ongoing conflict has also increased pressure on global energy markets and countries facing rising fuel and energy costs.
